Past decisions, future consequences Chapter 26

I had to stifle the groan as we sat in front of my laptop on video conference with the wedding planner that had been recommended to us by one of Brian Campbell's former teammates. It was our second meeting and I could already tell that all she was concerned about was the commision and not at all what I or Patrick wanted.

" Cara I was thinking that we could have a smaller ceremony and a bigger reception" I reminded her as I tried in vain to unclench my jaw

" Oh I know that's what you said but I always say that it's better to have to much space then not enough." She quipped in what was quickly becoming an annoying nasal pitch. Patrick, who was sitting quietly behind me, squeezed my hand and leaned over to whisper in my ear.

" It's alright babe. I told you that it doesn't matter how much stuff cost. It's not like I can't pay for it."

I gave him a look that had to convey my annoyance with the situation because he straighted back up and shut his mouth. I was at the end of my patience and I didn't want to be rude so I ended the conference with a promise to think about what she had said and to let her know as soon as possible.

" This isn't a big deal baby. You need to stop stressing out about it." He pulled me sideways on the couch and started to rub my shoulders as I closed my laptop and leaned back against him

" I just feel like she isn't listening to me. She just wants the fat check that will come along with a ridicusly expensive wedding." I grumbled

" We still have a year to get everything settled and since I'm footing the bill I will make sure that you get what you want."

My phone chose that moment to ring and I wasn't surprised to see that it was his mom calling. She had been so excited that you would have thought that she was the one getting married again. She was calling to confirm our plans for New York City in a couple of weeks. The boys had an away game against the Rangers and all of us girls were going to go dress shopping since I was told that it was something that I should start right away. I had always hated to wear dresses and the prospect of spending a full day trying them on didn't appeal to me but I was going to have to suffer through it. I was even letting Karri and Anna and Patrick's sisters pick out the bridesmaid dresses. That way if they were ugly at least they couldn't blame me.

" Is there anyway that I could convince you to just go to Las Vegas with me?" I asked him only half joking

" Sure if you want both of our mothers to kill us" he said

" That sounds better than this."

The worst part was that I was serious. I was to the point where I was willing to face the wrath of the women in our lives to not have anything to do with planning this event

I heard some noise coming from upstairs and went to get up to get AJ, who had been napping upstairs.

" Just stay sitting. I'll go get him okay."

I wasn't about to argue so I sat back while he headed upstairs to get our son. I had to smile when I heard Patrick talking to Aj.

" Daddy's got a game tonight but I will be home right away to see the both of you as soon as I can. He passed AJ to me and gave us both kisses before heading to the arena. I waited for a few minutes before I took him upstairs to get ready for our surprise. I changed into my jersey and a pair of jeans and put AJ in a little blackhawks jersey that I had gotten customized a couple of weeks before in secret. I called Karri to let her know that we were ready whenever she wanted to come pick us up. We didn't have to wait long and we packed into the car with everything that I might need for the night. I hadn't been to a game since the baby had been born and I was excited to be able to not only get out of the house but to support the guys in person. We got to the arena and got to our seats with out an issue. Anna showed up but when I saw her she didn't so much as say hi to either of us and I had to wonder if something was going on with her and Sharpie. I figured we could talk after the game since we were in public. everyone around us commented on the fact that he wasn't fussing as long as he could see the ice. He saw Patrick and started to make noises and wave his hands around. The game ended and I knew that it was going to be a good night after the guys had beaten the RedWings. We made our way down to the locker room. Anna still hadn't said anything to either of us. We waited and I saw Karri give me a look and I just shrugged my shoulders at her. Finally I handed AJ to Karri and pulled Anna by the arm out into the hallway.

" What's wrong?" I asked her, not letting go of her elbow

" Nothings wrong." she spit at me as she jerked away from my touch

" Stop being like that. Something is wrong and dammit, you need to tell me."

" Did you sleep with my boyfriend?"

The question caught me off guard for a second and my silence must have been enough of an answer because she started to cry and ran off before I got a chance to explain.

" Shit" I muttered. I knew that I had better warn Sharpie about what had happened if he didn't already know. I wanted to go into the locker room but I wasn't sure that anyone would be decent yet so I waited. Finally the guys started to filter out and I decided to take my chances. He was standing by his stall putting his shirt on.

" Hey Sharpie."

" Hey. It seems like it's been forever since I've seen you. What's going on? Is the little one with you?"

" Yeah Karri has him outside in the hallway."

" You should go get him and let us show him the locker room."

" Yeah I will but I have something that I want to tell you first."

He nodded his head and looked at me expectantly.

" I have no idea how she found out about us and she's pissed."

" Did you tell her that it was when we weren't togeather and that it was no big deal?" he asked as he started to looked concerned.

" I didn't have a chance to say anything. She took off."

" Shit I have to go and find her."

" I'm really sorry Sharpie. I hope everything is okay. I would hate to know that I caused problems between two friends."

He gave me a weak smile as I patted his arm and I went to find my Patrick.

" You came tonight? Who babysat?"

" No one. Karri brought the both of us. They are in the hallway as we speak."

" I thought that you said AJ was to young to come to watch?" he asked me as finally gave me a kiss

" He is but I knew that it would be a nice surprise for you and the rest of the guys. Want me to go get him?"

" Yeah I want to show him off to the guys."
" Okay"

I went and got the both of them but I only half paid attention as everyone surrounded us. I was to worried about Anna and Sharpie to really concentrate on anything that was going on. I really hoped that past choices didn't screw up something for two people that were so good for each other.

  1. I love your story. I hope that Sharpie can work through his relationship issues.
I'm not going to lie, I really wanted Burish to end up with her.
